Tesing
My setup before driver update
Miner01 - 2x R9 290x, catalyst 15.12
Miner02 - 7950, catalyst 15.12
Miner03 - 7970 + R9 280x, catalyst 15.12
Miner04 - 2x RX 470, catalyst 16.12
All miners using Win7 x64, Nicehash Miner Legacy 1.8.1.1.
Results
Miner01 - when Claymore ethereum miner is started (using nicehash) GPU/GPUMEM clocks stays on 300/150 MHz for both 290x cards, the result is something around 4MH/s per card, which is bullshit because with catalyst 15.12 I get around 28MH/s per card, so switched back to 15.12
Miner02 - did not tried to install new drivers, I was so fed up with results on other 3 miners that I gave it up
Miner03 - no difference in compare with catalyst 15.12, benchmark results same, leaving the new driver installed
Miner04 - not able to make Claymore ethereum miner running at all, miner crashes about 5seconds after started, switched back to 16.12
I'm not alone
My friend is mining on 3x R9 380 using catalyst 15.12, he tried to install these mining drivers yesterday with simmilar results as me - not able to even start the Claymore miner correctly, BSODs, messages that no OpenCL devices found, ... When switched back to 15.12 everything is OK.
Conclusion
These drivers are supposed for mining, but Im not able to even run the Claymore ETH miner (which I think is the most used ETH miner for AMD cards) on R9 290x / RX 470 (which is the best card for ETH mining) correctly / at all - did anyone in AMD even tried to install and mine using these drives? It does not seems so... :-/
The overall result is that I wasted 3 hours of upgrading / downgrading drivers with no result, therefore I dont recommend you to waste your time as I did. AMD is making great HW I think but they are killing it with shitty drivers as usual - I dont understand WHY.
I will be happier in case I have to pay few more $ for the HW but get WORKING drivers for it especially for linux - beacuse linux drivers for some unknown reason lack the capability to control GPU core voltage, which make them useless for mining again (you can save ~20% of heat / power reducing GPU voltage, but you cant do that with linux drivers!!!).
